ACA designed a mental health place of safety extension to the existing Miranda House building in Hull.

Design Brief

Above all, the brief was to provide additional interview rooms and an expanded waiting area. Hence, the proposed extension increases the ground floor area by 75sqm.

Design Approach

Primarily, the design of the new extension is sensitive to its context in terms of materials, character, appearance and the scale of the surrounding buildings.

In addition, consideration of the existing building’s materials and colours creates harmony and a balance between new and existing.

Finally, strategic integration of natural light into the interior space creates a visual comfort, which is crucial to patient, staff and visitors’ well-being in any mental health facility.
