Project Background
In brief, ACA provided architecture, interior and landscape design services for a GP practice extension in Bedale.
The Brief
Initially, the brief was to design a GP practice extension for Glebe House Surgery to accommodate:
- 6 new treatment rooms.
- 14 new consulting rooms.
- A large waiting and reception area.
- A pharmacy
- Office, utility and storage space
- A staff room and accessible WC facilities.
The Design
Aesthetically, the design is contemporary and sympathetic to the existing building and local vernacular.
Moreover, the proposed layout improves movement and usability for patients and employees. In addition, the site layout enhances the existing parking layout by providing extra spaces with separate parking for GPs.
Technically, the proposed development includes internal alterations, refurbishment of existing facilities and improvements to parking facilities and landscaping.
Overall, the new GP practice extension is built with people in mind and is therefore therapeutic and efficient. Moreover, it will provide a sheltered and safe environment as well as a practical and user-friendly surgery.
The Challenge
Initially, work began on site at the start of the Covid19 pandemic in May 2020. Unfortunately, this did cause some unavoidable delays. However, the extra time created the opportunity to rethink certain aspects of the design to become pandemic-proof!
