ACA – Education Design New Build Extension
ACA has developed the education design for a new Institute of Technology (IOT) on behalf of East Riding College, (ERC) in Beverley. Also, ACA’s design team will provide an integrated service including architecture, interior, landscape design and principal designer services.
Project Background
In fact, the new institute will form part of a regional Institute called the Yorkshire and Humber Institute of Technology. This will be one of only 12 across the country! Furthermore, the Yorkshire and Humber IOT is a government initiative aiming to close the skills gap in key STEM areas. Therefore, the outcome will be a supply of highly skilled, technical candidates for employers. So, the new IOT department at ERC will specialise in delivering higher technical education. Hence the focus will be on: science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects.
The Brief
Primarily, the brief is to develop the design of a single storey extension to ERC’s Flemingate campus in Beverley. Furthermore the design needs to seamlessly integrate with the existing building and allow for future-proofing as popularity increases. The LEP secured £0.5 million from the Government’s Local Growth Fund to part fund the project.
So, the proposed extension comprises:
- CAD Suites
- Classrooms
- A Science Lab
- A Higher Education Study Zone
- A Workshop
The symbolic ground breaking ceremony took place at the college on 19 October 2020. Recently, work began on site in December 2020.
