ACA’s Amelia Brushes up on First Aid Skills!
Last week, Amelia took a significant step towards enhancing ACA’s workplace safety by attending an Emergency First Aid at Work course delivered by Lynne Martin on behalf of Act Fast First Aid. The experience was not only highly educational but also incredibly engaging, thanks to the intimate setting with only two participants!! This small class size provided Amelia with ample opportunity to practice and master essential first aid skills.
The course began by outlining the critical responsibilities of a First Aider. The participants learnt that a First Aider is a responder, communicator and coordinator in the case of emergencies until professional help arrives; also learning the key distinctions between a responsive and an unresponsive casualty.

CPR training was perhaps the most intense part of the course where Amelia learnt to perform chest compressions and rescue breaths.

Thereafter Lynne demonstrated how to protect a person having a seizure, ensuring they are safe from injury and went on to teach how to handle splinters, burns and scalds. Further practice included applying pressure to wounds, controlling blood loss and preventing infection.
Choking was another critical topic where the participants practiced the Heimlich Manoeuvre and learnt how to deliver back blows and abdominal thrusts effectively.

Amelia left the course feeling confident and prepared to handle emergencies in the workplace. The personalized attention she received due to the small class size was invaluable, providing a safer work environment for all.
