Step-down Facility Aiding Mental Well-Being.

ACA was appointed to create a step-down facility for Care UK. The facility will provide care for people released from low-secure accommodation, where they will remain until they successfully and confidently rehabilitate and integrate back into the local community.

The development comprises of a central hub with communal facilities, 20 rehabilitation apartments and a 4-bed low secure unit.

The facility is designed to aid the resident, staff and visitor experience and to promote emotional and mental well-being. It is built around a landscaped courtyard, which discreetly provides a comfortable environment that reduces tension, encourages well-being and integrates community activities. The design cleverly eliminates the need for secondary perimeter security fencing.

Public areas provide a welcoming and reassuring congregational space, where staff and residents can engage together and access outdoor areas. Structured activities and group rooms for residents are combined with staff dedicated areas.

The complex boasts a domestic “feel” in order to create a calming and familiar place of living. The apartments are designed to provide a sense of individuality, whilst ensuring a safe environment that promotes self-confidence and independence.

“Alex has shown Care UK that he understands the briefs and that he is prepared to seek solutions that respond to the site and the cost constraints, but also provide solutions that include the necessary concern for users and residents, by delivering an enjoyable caring environment.”

Steve Hubbard – Business Development Director, Care UK
