International Architecture Award Win!

ACA has won another international architecture award!

Here at ACA, we almost choked on a cuppa when we discovered that we have won another international architecture award!  What a welcome surprise!

Already in 2021, ACA won 1 international and 1 national award and were finalists for a national and local award!

So, to win another award was the icing on the cake!

This time around, ACA has won Architect of the Year 2021 for the Architecture Community Awards.

With stiff competition from around the globe, ACA impressed the judges with the Allam Diabetes Centre for the Public Building Built category.

In 2019, ACA started to design the Allam Diabetes Centre on behalf of Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Opened in December 2021, the impressive hospital building houses world-class research facilities as well as a patient care hub.  Located at the front of Hull Royal Infirmary, the new centre provides a welcoming embrace to all building-users.

As well as the “Wow factor” in appearance, the Centre was a challenge to design with the tightest of deadlines and overlapping of design stages.  Says Amelia Caruso, Director at ACA:

I am so proud of ACA’s design team for creating such a statement building in my home city, which will benefit the people of Hull for years to come.

Our mission is to design healthier and happier environments to improve people’s lives: I think we have definitely achieved that.  We have several family members and friends affected by Diabetes.  So, it is an honour to have designed for them in mind, as well as the wider community.

None of this would have been possible without the generosity of the Allam family, who donated £3m towards the £7.5m overall cost.
