ACA has provided a refurbishment solution for Maister Lodge, an inpatient care service unit for older people that provides a comprehensive care service to residents who are experiencing mental health problems.
Working within the existing fabric of the building, ACA re-designed the layout with Dementia-friendly principles in mind and provided an environment that promotes the ability to function independently. The design enhances the emotional and psychological well-being of the inpatients. The residential ‘pods’ are provided with a central meeting space and communal facilities that are integrated within multi-sensory walking paths to promote social interaction. The design is carefully considered to subtly yet clearly introduce way-finding solutions that aid inpatients with orientation and successful care service.
