ACA was appointed to produce a residential house extension using principles of conservation architecture. The property, located in Hessle, East Yorkshire is set in a conservation area with special architectural character and appearance.

The design is approached using a simple strategy. The house extension is characterized by a minimalist design, in keeping with the requirements outlined by the conservation area and its policy. Moreover, compared with the significant style and quality of the main building, the proposed extension character is deliberately plain and understated with materials in keeping and glazed areas for connections to the house.

In addition, the internal layout has been modified considering the existing structure of the main building, to provide a modern, homely, and positive environment, that maximizes the effective use of space in day-to-day life. In short, the residential extension project achieved modern yet a classic character of conservation architecture.
