Shaping a Sustainable Future: Our Commitment to Social Value and Net Zero

Innovating today for a greener, more inclusive tomorrow.

At ACA sustainability and social responsibility are at the heart of everything we do. From reducing our environmental footprint to creating spaces that foster inclusivity and community well-being, we aim to leave a lasting positive impact on people and the planet.

Our goal is simple: to design beautiful, functional spaces that meet today’s needs without compromising the future.

Social Value

ACA believes architecture has the power to improve lives. That’s why we design inclusive spaces that reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.

Over the years we have supported local charities, artwork and sports initiatives such as Hull Truck Theatre, Run With It and White Cross Netball Club. We currently sponsor The SMILE Foundation, Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University, Northern Wanderers Vets Football Club, various NHS staff awards as well as volunteering time and regular one-off donations to other organisations.

ACA hosts at least 10 work experience students per year to inspire the next generation and delivers voluntary guest lectures at the Universities of Hull and Lincoln.

All of ACA’s projects provide inclusive and accessible environments and we often act as Dementia and Mental Health Friendly Design Champions.

Sustainability in Design

It is important for us to contribute to the 40 strategies associated to climate change urban adaptations for the future and above all those connected to public health.

We design our buildings to meet BREEAM ratings from “Very Good” to “Excellent” and “Net Zero”, adopting sustainable materials which are selected based on their carbon emissions.

At the heart of the sustainability strategy we use passive solar design, considering the building’s orientation, maximising natural light and ventilation, an airtight and high performing thermal envelope, triple glazed openable windows and curtain walls, green roofs and renewable energy technologies and more.

A successful sustainable building design requires a diverse team of experts working collaboratively throughout the project lifecycle.

Architects and engineers, technical specialists and contractors are required to balance challenges associated to cost, technical design, knowledge and regulatory requirements.

Environmental Responsibility

We are committed to reducing waste, conserving natural resources and protecting biodiversity, embedded in our ISO 14001 systems and processes.

Net Zero Goals

ACA is a Carbon Neutral certified organisation with a carbon reduction plan until 2050.

We are committed to incorporating more biophilic design into ACA’s workplace and considering cleaner, renewable energy suppliers to further reduce carbon emissions.
