ACA was appointed by a private Client to design a house extension in the historic Beverley, East Yorkshire. The new layout increased the gross internal area by 8.2 sqm and accommodates a bathroom and a bedroom.
The design improves the accommodation on the first floor, retaining the existing structures and integrating an extension over the existing kitchen on the ground floor. The extension is located in the Westwood Conservation area of Beverley where the local vernacular is predominately terraced residential properties with red brick elevations with pitched slate roofs and dormer windows. The design is in-keeping with the nearby Victorian dwellings. The shape of the roof, window detailing and materials complement the dwelling and are sympathetic to its character.
Proposals were consulted with the local planning authority and local residents. Designs were produced in accordance with Householder Design Guidance.
