Roberta and Gabriella Caruso’s Work Experience at ACA

Work Experience at ACA: A Summer of Learning and Growth

This summer at ACA, the ACA team was thrilled to introduce Gabriella and Roberta Caruso, Alex and Amelia’s daughters, to a week of work experience in the office. Having grown up around the company, the girls are aware of some of the projects and are used to overhearing Amelia and Alex’s work conversations, but this was the first time they experienced the workings of the Practice.

During the week, they worked on a range of tasks, from creating blog posts; to beginning to use Architectural software like ‘Revit‘ and Virtual Reality technologies and further assisting with administrative duties.

Gabriella and Roberta had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves into the world of Virtual Reality (VR), allowing them to explore the firm’s projects in 3D models of designs. Their first hand experience gave them a deeper understanding of the transformation of digital tools used in architecture and interior design.

Roberta commented:

“The VR experience was amazing, it was so strange exploring and feeling as though you are in a building which hasn’t been constructed yet!

WORK EXPERIENCE

One of the key areas Gabriella and Roberta contributed to was content creation. Writing blogs for an architecture and interior design practice requires technical insight, and creativity. The girls were quick to pick up on this and brought their unique perspectives, enriching the content with their take on the projects.

ACA’s Office Administrator Andrea said:

Having Gabriella and Roberta in the office for work experience has been a great help, especially their assistance with writing blogs. Their fresh perspectives have enriched the content of our posts. It has been a pleasure to work with them both, and I am grateful for their hard work.”

Beyond their creative contributions, Gabriella and Roberta also gained hands-on experience with the operational side of the business. They were tasked with uploading receipts and invoices to Xero accountancy software, through this, they gained an understanding of the financial aspects of running an architecture and interior design firm.

Amelia, reflecting on their time in the office, shared:

“It was a pleasure to have the girls working with us in the office. They have always heard about what goes on but have never really experienced it in real life. Hopefully, this has provided them with a real insight into what goes on in an architecture and interior design practice, the different roles and projects, and what their Mum and Dad do.”

As their work experience drew to a close, Gabriella and Roberta reflected on their time at ACA, saying:

“We’ve learnt so much during our time here. It’s been a great opportunity to see what actually happens in the office, and we’re grateful for the chance to contribute and be part of the team.”

As Gabriella and Roberta move forward, we hope the skills and insights they’ve gained during their time at ACA will serve them well in whatever path they choose, even though Alex is still hoping they will eventually choose the path of Architecture!

It was a pleasure to have them both in the office, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next!
