Project Brief
Millennium Care Group appointed ACA to design a Hydrotherapy Pool to complement their Lakeside Nursing Home in Standish. Moreover, we designed a therapeutic, relaxing, and elegant “SPA experience” for the residents.
Project Background
Recently we have designed Millennium Care’s new Lakeside Nursing Home in Standish, home to the new Hydrotherapy pool.
Our Design
Thanks to ACA’s expertise in dementia-friendly design, our proposal is both suitable for residents with dementia and aesthetically appealing.
Thus the theme is to bring nature in via materials selected with a “natural feel”: split tiles, wood finish floor vinyl, green walls, and landscape pictures.
Materials
Firstly, cladding panels on one of the pool area walls will feature a landscape picture of the Lake District. Thus aiming to stimulate the residents’ memories of their childhood / young adulthood spent in the nearby region.
Secondly, the flooring selection is a dimpled, sand colour surface vinyl to complement the impression of being “amongst nature”.
Thirdly, behind the shower area, we selected cladding panels to achieve an optimal colour contrast in terms of LRV (light reflectance values).
Furthermore, we selected split-face tiles on the remaining walls, creating the impression of a rocky wall. Also, we introduced elements of biophilia such as preserved moss/living moss ‘paintings’ to achieve the ‘natural feel’.
Finally, sound-absorbing panels alternate with the moss paintings to create appealing visuals whilst absorbing noise distractions.
