HB Villages appointed ACA for supported living apartments design in Southam.

Once again, HB villages appointed ACA for supported living accommodation design in Southam.

Previously, ACA designed supported living accommodation for the Client in Dunstable.

The Brief

The brief was to demolish an existing police station and build 20 new supported living apartments.  In fact, 3 apartments will accommodate residents with physical disabilities and the rest will accommodate residents with learning disabilities.

Accessible Design

ACA focused on accessibility design principles for all disabilities.

For instance, the layout of internal corridors is wide, simple, and safe to negotiate. Also, doors are wide enough with low thresholds.  Additionally, the selection of floors is firm, non-directional, and slip-resistant to allow easy passage for wheelchair users. Kitchen designs are fully accessible by wheelchair users, allowing them to interact with cooking activities.

“Working with Alex and the ACA team has been a breath of fresh air as they really care about the schemes they design. For instance, they understand the end-user and how the schemes must respond to their needs. This is extremely important as we operate a highly specialised area helping individuals with several needs. In addition to the diligence in design we are delighted with their commitment. Moreover, coordination across all our consultants and the speed that information is produced is excellent. We cannot rate Alex and the team highly enough and look forward to engaging again on our next project.”
